Young heroes update
On the 4th July we announced that we had received 7 nominations for the young heroes’ awards.
Our Inspector Emma Kay decided that the best course of action would be to present all 7 amazing young people with certificates! So on Thursday 11th July, 6 of the young heroes came to Peterlee for their awards. One young hero was unable to attend so officers visited him at home.
Below is the list of Young heroes for June, with a brief outline of the nomination
Kieran Dower 15yrs- Kieran plays football for his local team. Since summer of 2018 he has become an integral part of the wider team. Helping run the little kicker project (4-8yrs) and becoming a key member of the coaching team. He does all this in his free time and has helped develop many of the players who will be playing next season. He is an asset to the club and the wider community.
Libby West - is an aspiring football coach so to make this happen she has decided to sign up as a volunteer with a local football team. She has been helping support the 5-11yrs girls’ teams. Her support and hard work have been key to the success which has also led to Libby delivering full training sessions.
Logan Wardle is an 11yr old, He has a younger brother who is 3yrs old who has extra care requirements.  Logan is described as amazing and selfless and always ensures his needs are met. This selflessness is also a comfort to mam and dad!
Jake Askew- Jake was actually nominated twice!
Nomination 1, Officers were dealing with a report of a motorbike being ridden in a dangerous manner, the bike made off from police again with no consideration for others. It was thanks to Jakes information that the bike was found and the rider dealt with accordingly.
Nomination 2 during the school leavers’ night Jake was trying to reassure and support an intoxicated female friend, however this female has then gone onto assault a PCSO. Jake remained calm and upon seeing the injured officer has gone to her aid and assisted her back to the police vehicle for further treatment.
Lewis Sillito, Patrick Clark & Aaron Lowther are the final 3 young people to be nominated for June. (But not the last for 2019!) Whilst they were out in Peterlee they have noticed a distressed dog high up on a balcony. They have climbed up to the dog to make sure it was ok and have then assisted police in rescuing the dog.
Well done guys!!
We are extremely proud of this project and it’s a pleasure to see it going from strength to strength.
Did you know the award is sponsored by local businesses such as McDonalds and ASDA as well as Castledene shopping Centre?
Our partners include Durham County Council and Peterlee Town Council, without whom this would not be possible.
Do you know a Young Hero? If so then why not nominate them? Just PM us through our Facebook page and we will do the rest.
Thank you.
Team Peterlee
