July has seen another 13 (yes 13!) Young people of Peterlee receive young heroes’ awards.
During the month of July we also saw some of the youngest members of the community getting stuck in and helping out in the local community.
So thank you for those who have taken the time to contact us about the good work that young people across Peterlee are continuing to do.
Below is a brief outline of the nominations
Nomination 1- Elliot Joyce – 8yrs old & Sebastian Joyce – 3yrs old. Matthew Turner-Simpson 4yrs old & Amelia Turner-Simpson 2yrs old, Aria Jones is 2yrs old
This group of award winners show that it is never too early to get involved in making the community a better place. Having given up their free time to join Operation Spring Clean, which is a community clean up- regarding discarded rubbish and hazards. They all put in 100% effort and asked questions about why cleaning the area was a good thing and what happens to rubbish when left. The group said it is better to play in a clean area with their friends and they were a pleasure to manage and work with, the whole group embraced the activity and had the chance to meet new friends. I feel that they are an inspiration to all, at such a young age to care and want to make a difference.
Laila Beaumont age 9yrs old &Aaron Beaumont-Carr age 10 yrs old
Laila has a younger sister, Anya, who has a rare genetic chromosome condition and requiries a lot of support. Laila and Aaron have been amazing in supporting Anya. Not only have they donated their own toys to the Learning library in Spennymoor (charity that provides the unique service of loaning out activity items, specialist equipment, sensory items, toys and games to children and adults with additional needs and learning difficulties) they also went further in terms of writing a letter to the head of Shotton Hall primary school asking for their help in supporting the learning library, collecting several bags of toys.
Alana Wilkinson, Mia Ogden, Jay Turnbull, Jorgie Ray Smith, Demi Leigh Price, Jenson Halsall.
Another group of young people doing some good in the community! This group were spotted by Mr Terry Duffy, Peterlee Town Mayor, sweeping and cleaning the area where they lived, Terry asked what they were doing and they said that they wanted to be proud of where they lived. Terry was overwhelmed by this and was able to donate some flowers to the area which the group later planted, as well as receiving this award the group have received the Mayors award. Well done!
