Good Afternoon Citizen

Week three of Operation Trident across West Durham is continuing in Consett, Stanley and Chester le Street. Here are some highlights of the proactive work our officers have been doing over the last 7 days to proactively tackle crime in your neighbourhood;

Over the weekend officers seized several vehicles, including a quad bike from South Stanley being ridden on a road with no insurance and no licence, a van from Stanley having been driven on the road using false plates, a car seized from South Moor with no insurance, and another car seized having been witnessed driving erratically around Edmondsley which was stopped and the driver having no licence or insurance. The drivers have been reported to court for offences.

On Thursday PCSOs sighted a car suspected of being involved in the supply of drugs in Stanley. Officers subsequently stopped the vehicle in Sacriston. 4 men inside the car were searched and drugs were found. The four men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and the car was seized. They were also reported for breaching Covid19 regulations.

On Friday an operation was conducted in Chester le Street and 4 people were arrested. One person was subsequently dealt with in custody for production of a controlled substance, and another was dealt with for possession of a bladed article.

On Saturday officers stopped a car in Stanley also suspected of being involved in drugs supply. The driver also failed a roadside drugs test. He was arrested for offences including drug driving, money laundering and being concerned in the supply of drugs. Following searches of a house in Burnopfield, drugs and cash were seized. An investigation is ongoing.

In the early hours of this morning police attended Beamish Museum in Chester le Street following an alarm activation at the premises. A man was found inside a building at the museum where entry had been forced. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently in custody assisting officers with enquiries.
