The temperature has dropped and autumn has definitely arrived! As the darker nights approach us, we continue our positive and proactive policing in your community under Operation Trident. Here’s a snapshot of what our police officers have recently been up to in and around West Durham from Consett, Stanley and Chester le Street…
 
On Monday in Chester le Street, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle with a missing tyre, driving along on just the wheel rim! Officers located the vehicle in Sacriston where the driver was suspected to be drunk. The driver was arrested and has consequently been charged with drink driving and will appear at court in the coming weeks.
 
On Tuesday, officers from Stanley successfully located a male who was wanted by Hampshire Constabulary on suspicion of several offences, including failing to appear at court. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 weeks imprisonment, and an investigation is ongoing by Hampshire Constabulary in relation to other matters.
 
On Wednesday in Chester le Street, police received a response of a potential burglary in progress in the town. Officers attended and following a search of the area, located a man nearby matching the description of the suspect. He was subsequently arrested. An investigation is ongoing.
 
On Saturday in Consett, police received a reported of a trolley dash shoplifting. The suspect was identified by police officers and arrested at a nearby address. Further searches conducted upon the arrest resulted in a quantity of suspected drugs being located. An investigation is ongoing.
 
In the courts, 20 year old Adrian Shay Collins of Stanley was convicted of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. These offences relate back to March of this year when he drove dangerously in residential areas in excess of the speed limit, and failing to stop for police. He will be sentenced on the 1st October.
 
28 year old Luke Limond of Consett also appeared at court, and was convicted of drink driving. He was involved in an incident in March this year where he was stopped driving by police and subsequently found to have 4 times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. He was banned from driving for 22 months, fined, and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.
