Have Your Say on Police Funding in 2026/27!

As your elected Police and Crime Commissioner, it’s my duty to set a fair and effective budget for Durham Constabulary each year. Around 30% of police funding comes directly from your council tax, so it’s vital that you help shape these decisions.

Despite our best efforts, Durham and Darlington continue to face widening funding gaps as central government grants fail to keep pace with rising costs. Forces like ours, with lower tax bases, are still being left behind and missing out on vital resources that other areas can raise more easily.

If Durham had the same freedom to set the precept as forces in Wales, we would have received £7m more this year alone - enough for over 100 extra police officers keeping our communities safe.

With increasing pressures on policing, your views are more important than ever. This consultation asks how much you feel able to contribute through the precept to help maintain and improve frontline services in 2026/27.
