This week our Bishop Auckland Weekly round-up is a special one, as this is from Inspector Edwards…. THE WEEKLY HOT BUZZ: 'Community, Cops, and Crime'. Hopefully, all our followers will have noticed how we tend to put together a weekly round-up (usually over the weekend), to try and give a whistlestop overview of activity conducted by the NPT over the preceding 7 days. ‘The Weekly Hot Buzz’ will be a shake up to the usual formula - designed to be a deeper dive into matters that the team have been involved in. On Monday, recent addition to the team PCSO Baker-Wood and stalwart PCSO Foggin attended St Annes Primary and Woodhouse Primary schools to visit staff and children and to engage with parents. Following a recent rise in crime where Nissan vehicles have been targeted – although not exclusively, PCSO Foggin conducted preventative patrols, placing leaflets onto vehicles offering advice around crime prevention. Strangely enough, we never received a single call pertaining to a suspicious character dressed as an Officer tampering with motors… PC Laycock and PC Moran located a stolen motorbike near to the TA Centre, whilst at the same time PC Sewell and PC Dundas located a stolen Nissan Navara. Both vehicles were recovered. The Nissan Navara is awaiting forensics being completed. On Wednesday, our seasoned drone pilots – Pc Burton and PCSO Robinson, used their time developing their expertise with some mandatory training. The assistance of our eyes in the sky can be invaluable therefore training such as that undertaken by the guys is equally as vital. Elsewhere in Bishop, the team were alerted to a shoplifting which had just occurred at Tindale Retail Park. Within 10 minutes of the crime occurring, PC Dundas, PCSO Atkinson and PCSO Graham had intercepted the female and arrested her for shoplifting. She was charged and remanded to appear at court. On Thursday PCSO Robinson and his colleague PCSO Stephenson attended Hamsterley Primary School - alongside DAAC, to give an input on the Mini Police project. Engaging with such youthful minds is always a refreshing experience, and it’s always nice to break away from the usual everyday crims we’re used to encountering… PC Sewell and PC Laycock conducted foot patrols within the Town Centre in accordance with Op PAVE – this is the Government’s pledge to clean up our streets, particularly within hot spot areas. On Friday, PC Jones and PCSO Stephenson spent some invaluable time out and about on foot on their dedicated patch - Etherley Dene and Woodhouse Estate. As always, it was lovely to engage with community members. At the same time, PC Dundas, PCSO Atkinson and PCSO Graham conducted high visibility patrols around Tindale Retail Park engaging with shoppers, retailers, and staff members. Also on Friday, a vigilant member of the community noticed a suspicious vehicle parked up, and within 2 minutes of the call PC Neil and PCSO Robinson were on scene and confirmed this to be a stolen vehicle that was only taken hours earlier. The vehicle has been safely recovered, and the relevant investigation is underway. The activities captured above are just a small amount of those issues, incidents, and engagements that the team have been involved in. It does not capture the time devoted to apprehending suspected perpetrators of domestic violence offences, dealing with said suspects, searching addresses for outstanding criminals for retail and vehicle crime, and attending numerous forums and interacting with partner organisations and key stakeholders in and around the area.
