Dear Resident please see below a weekly update of incidents/crimes/good outcomes in relation to the Benfieldside, Blackhill, Bridgehill and Shotley bridge area over the last week.
Local Update 14th March - 26th March: On Thursday 12th March police received a call about a suspicious male taking pictures of the callers child at the band stand in Consett Park. Unfortunately, the call was received 2hrs after the incident so there was no trace of the male in the park. Caller has been spoken to to narrow down an accurate time frame and CCTV enquires are on going. If anyone has sighted anything or has any information in regards to the incident or where the bike is coming from, please contact Durham Police on 101 and quote incident no. DHM-12032026-0454. On Tuesday 17th March it has been reported that on Aspen Court a Ford Transit tipper has had its lock drilled and the dash tampered with in what appears to be an attempt to hot wire it. A crime has been recorded and is currently under investigation. If anyone has sighted anything or has any information in regards to the incident or where the bike is coming from, please contact Durham Police on 101 and quote incident no. DHM-17032026-0091. On Thursday 19th March it has been reported that on Laburnum Avenue another Ford Transit has had its lock drilled and the dash tampered with in what appears to be an attempt to hot wire it. Nothing was taken from the van other than a phone charger and a crime has been recorded and currently under investigation. If anyone has sighted anything or has any information in regards to the incident or where the bike is coming from, please contact Durham Police on 101 and quote crime ref. CRI00670808. On Friday 20th March a black Ford Fiesta was stolen from Dixon Street at around 1950-2015hrs. CCTV check are currently underway in the street and at the allotments to the rear of the street. A crime of theft of motor vehicle has been recorded. If anyone has sighted anything or has any information in regards to the incident or where the bike is coming from, please contact Durham Police on 101 and quote crime ref. CRI00671251. On Sunday 22nd March at 1857 a group of 3 teenage youths have kicked the door of an address on St Aidans Street. This same group have also done the same to a property on Ashby Crescent earlier on between 1732 and 1741hrs. CCTV footage has been collected of the youths however they are all wearing balaclavas. If anyone has any identifiable footage of these youths please contact Durham Police on 101 and quote incident reference DHM-22032026-0438. On Thursday 26th March between 1900hrs the previous night and 0615hrs a moped has been stolen from Benfieldside road. The bike was located on Backsotne Burn a few hours alter by an off duty officer and recovered by the owner. A crime of theft of motor vehicle is to be recorded. . If anyone has any identifiable footage of these youths please contact Durham Police on 101 and quote incident reference DHM-26032026-0037. Due to the rise is Ford Fiesta and Transit thefts, increased patrols will be carried out in the affected areas, as well as letter drops with target hardening advice to vehicle owners.
