I wanted to provide you with an update regarding anti-social behaviour from youths, which people where you live are highlighting as an issue of concern in their survey responses. It has been a busy month for your local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) officers in Wheatley Hill and Thornley, alongside supporting colleagues across the wider Peterlee area.
Anti-social behaviour near the Co-op:
Officers have been actively addressing ASB issues outside the Co-op. CCTV is regularly reviewed in relation to youth behaviour toward staff and within the surrounding area. Working in partnership with Durham County Council, warning letters have been issued, which has already led to a noticeable reduction in incidents.
Insecure premises:
Officers recently identified two youths inside an unsecured property. They were referred to the Anti-Social Behaviour Team and given strong words of advice regarding their safety and the risks involved.
Parking concerns at Wheatley Hill Primary School:
Officers have been working alongside parking enforcement teams to tackle unsafe parking on yellow lines outside the school. While some may feel this is unnecessary, these measures are in place to improve visibility and prevent serious accidents involving children and pedestrians.
Drone training- Eyes in the Sky!
One of our local PCs has recently completed drone training. This will enhance our ability to support future operations, particularly in relation to anti-social behaviour and public safety incidents. See it, say it, report it.
Driving offences- No Insurance:
Officers stopped a male driver twice within one week for driving without insurance. On both occasions, the vehicles were seized under Operation Takeaway, and the driver has been reported for the offences.
These are just a few examples of the positive work your local officers carry out every day.
If you notice anything that doesn’t seem right—no matter how small it may seem—please report it. Our officers are here to support and protect the community.
