Data Protection Guidance from National NHWN

Alert message sent 13/04/2018 12:43:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

As from 25th May 2018  a new Data Protection Policy will come into force. This will incorporate the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), approved by Europe Parliament which the UK Government have confirmed they will adhere to after we have left the EU.

I would be grateful if all NHWN Coordinators and Local NHWN Associations read the  attached document to see if they are already in compliance and if not review their Data Protection Policy to bring it in line with the new directive.

In the main it requires Local Associations and Coordinators, if not already doing so, to maintain a secure record of the members of their scheme and to ensure their members are happy for you to hold their personal details and that their members are made aware of their rights under the new directive. If members have already agreed that their personal details can be held by the local Association/ Coordinator then there is no need to make any changes but when recruiting new members into your scheme then it must me in compliance with the new directive.

County Durham & Darlington NHW Force association, through the NHWN Alert System/VISAV will ensure that they are in full compliance with the changes to the Data Protection Directive. Members signing up to OURWATCH agree at the time that their personal details can be stored under the Data Protection Act.

NHWN members who are not coordinators are not required to take any action but should ensure that their coordinator is complying with the changes with respect to holding personal details.
Thank you for your time in reading this message. The policy changes sound complicated but for the Local Association/Coordinators it is straightforward. Should you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact Jim Allen on email or via this means.
