Alert message sent 31/07/2020 11:48:00

Information sent on behalf of Durham Constabulary

Good afternoon Citizen

Due to several standalone news stories, we pressed pause on releasing our Operation Trident update last week. However, the show has continued to go on and we have continually been working proactively to tackle issues in the community throughout West Durham. Here is a snapshot of some of our work from the 709 incidents called into our control room for Consett, Stanley and Chester le Street over the past week.

On Thursday police from Stanley attended an address in Annfield Plain to conduct arrest enquiries, and a 26 year old man was arrested. He resisted arrest and assaulted the officer who was arresting him. He has now been charged with both resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and will appear at court in the coming weeks.

On Saturday police were called to a school in Chester le Street following a report of a man trying to break into property on the school grounds. Officers located a man who was subsequently arrested for burglary, criminal damage, and theft. An investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, officers conducted a drugs search warrant in Kimblesworth, Chester le Street. Officers located drugs within the address and a man was given a street caution for possession of cannabis.

On Tuesday officers from Stanley attended a report of a shoplifting. A 25 year old man was located and searched where he was found to be in possession of stolen property. He was subsequently arrested. The man was also wanted on recall to prison and is now back behind bars.

Also on Tuesday officers from Consett attended a shop on Middle Street following a suspected shoplifting. A 24 year suspect was detained, the stolen property recovered, and has subsequently been dealt with through the community resolution process.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning police officers from Consett were alerted to two men acting suspiciously in a car. Police suspected the use of cannabis and the pair were stop searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Drugs were located and one of the men was issued with a street caution for possession of cannabis. The driver also tested positive on a roadside drugs test and was arrested. An investigation is ongoing.

Our proactive work is only possible with the assistance of our community. If you have any concerns over crime in your community, or you have any information in relation to any of our recent press releases, please contact 101 or use the LiveChat on our force website.
