Stay one step ahead of fraudsters- this is s useful guide on how to spot typical scam calls, texts and emails:
1. Check who it is from- over or right-click the sender's name, you will be able to see the email address. If the senders name does not look legit- don't open or follow the instructions within.
2. Spelling or grammar mistakes- an email could have a mix of US and UK English, it could have different font styles or even random sizes.
3. Asking for PERSONAL DETAILS: name, date of birth, place of birth, bank card (long number) and the 3 security number on the back of the card.
4. "YOUR URGENT ATTENTION IS REQUIRED" message- Scammers would stress the urgency of your actions in the hope you don't take the time to check whether it's real or not, messages like - "Your account has been closed or that there is a payment due" DO NOT click on the link.
5. They are threatening- Fear and guilt are powerful weapons and some scammers will exploit that, it could be threat of legal actions or penalty payments unless you act on that call.
6. Never assume who's on the other end- challenge the caller.
7. If in doubt, call the POLICE.
