Safe Journeys to School and Bicycle Marking

Alert message sent 07/09/2021 14:23:00

Information sent on behalf of Durham Constabulary

Unfortunately, the hot Summer months are over and we will be forced to swap BBQs in the sunshine for hot chocolates on the sofa. This seasonal change also means the new Autumn School Term has started and we just wanted to remind parents and children about staying safe on their journeys to and from school premises, especially as the darker evenings draw closer. Officers will do their best to patrol school grounds as often as possible and will help with any parking issues that may occur.

This reminder also includes those using bicycles for their journeys. We would recommend the bicycles have working lights attached and those riding the bikes are wearing a helmet. Please make sure bicycles are secured if they are being left unattended for any length of time, whether this is on school premises or when visiting the local shop for sweets when the school day has ended.

To help in the event of a bicycle going missing, Officers from the East Neighbourhood Policing Team are offering a free bike marking service. This process only takes a few minutes and involves each bicycle being marked with an individual code which could help to identify it, if required in the future.

Officers will be available from 14:00 hours on Saturday the 11th of September in Eastbourne Park, Darlington. If you are not interested in the bike marking but are still in the area, please feel free to attend and speak to Officers about any other issues you may be having.

Thank you.
